PALESTINA
60x60 cm, Acrylic on Canvas (2024)
This exhibition explores four of today's most significant global conflicts: Palestine, Congo, Sudan, and Myanmar. Each painting in this collection is a vivid tapestry of the natural landscapes that shape these regions, emphasising the profound connection between environment and identity. The palette used in these works reflects the rich hues and textures of each land, serving as a reminder that the surroundings are integral to personal and collective development.
In a world often inundated with images of devastation and turmoil, this collection seeks to pivot the narrative. By focusing on the vibrancy and strength of the people from these conflict zones, the exhibition highlights their resilience, cultural richness, and enduring spirit. It invites viewers to see beyond the prevalent "negative image" and recognize the inherent beauty and potential of these regions.
Through this lens, the exhibition also draws a parallel with the global climate crisis. Both the environmental and geopolitical challenges can appear insurmountable, leading to feelings of helplessness and detachment. However, by showcasing the positive aspects and the inherent value within these contexts, we are encouraged to envision possibilities for recovery and growth.
"Women of the World" does not shy away from the harsh realities of these conflicts. Instead, it challenges the overwhelming narrative of despair by presenting an alternative perspective—one that celebrates the rich heritage, culture, and knowledge of the people. It poses an essential question: How can we portray conflict in a way that acknowledges suffering while also empowering those affected and preserving their dignity?
The exhibition advocates for a more balanced portrayal of troubled regions, encouraging a view that fosters hope and underscores the importance of cultural and environmental appreciation. In doing so, it aims to inspire a more profound understanding and connection to these lands, moving beyond the confines of their conflicts to appreciate their full, vibrant humanity.
The exhibition is an extension of Stellas self published book; Women of the World. This unique coloring book celebrates and highlights the rich diversity of cultures across the globe through a female lens. Each page of the book is intricately designed to showcase the beauty, traditions, and stories of women from various cultures, offering a vibrant and immersive exploration into their worlds.
